Free & Home Chef — how credits and billing work

Plate2Pan is free to use. Everyone gets recipe search, Cook Mode, their cookbook, meal planning, and grocery lists. The AI work — scanning a dish, raiding your pantry, adapting a recipe — runs on credits, and one optional plan gives you more of them.

What’s an AI credit?

A credit is what one piece of AI work costs. Your allowance refills on the 1st of every calendar month — 3 credits on Free, 30 on Home Chef — and unused credits don’t roll over. The app always shows the cost before it spends anything.

Which plan do I need?

Video recipe import and the Spark assistant are Home Chef features. Everything else — dish scans, URL, blog and Pinterest imports, Pan Raid, Second Act, recipe search — works on the Free plan, within its 3 credits a month. If you scan or import often, Home Chef’s 30 credits is roughly 15 dish scans, or 30 URL imports, or 3 video imports, or any mix of the three.

Frequently asked questions

How do I upgrade?

Open Settings → Subscription inside the app and tap Upgrade. Pick Home Chef, choose monthly or yearly billing, and confirm the purchase. On iOS this goes through the App Store (Face ID, Touch ID, or your Apple account); on Android through Google Play.

How do I cancel?

Subscriptions are managed by the app store you bought through. On iOS: Settings → your name → Subscriptions → Plate2Pan → Cancel Subscription. On Android: Google Play → Menu → Subscriptions → Plate2Pan → Cancel. Either way, you keep Home Chef until the end of the current billing period, then drop back to the Free plan.

How do I restore a purchase?

If you reinstalled the app or got a new device, open Settings → Subscription → Restore Purchases. Make sure you’re signed in with the same account you used to subscribe — your Apple ID on iOS, or your Google account on Android.

What happens when I run out of credits?

Nothing you’ve already made goes away. Your saved recipes, meal plans, grocery lists, and Cook Mode keep working exactly as before. Only new AI actions pause — they pick back up when your credits reset on the 1st of the next month, or as soon as you upgrade to Home Chef.

Do unused credits roll over?

No. Your allowance refills on the 1st of each calendar month — 3 credits on Free, 30 on Home Chef — and anything you didn’t spend that month doesn’t carry over.

I paid but the app still shows Free.

First, tap Settings → Subscription → Restore Purchases. Confirm you’re signed in with the account used for the purchase (your Apple ID on iOS, or your Google account on Android) and that you have a network connection. If it still shows Free after a minute, email support@plate2pan.app with your purchase receipt and we’ll sort it out fast.
